Friday Evening Lecture: Algur H. Meadows and His Prado on the Prairie

April 26 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Amanda W. Dotseth, Linda P. and William A. Custard Director of the Meadows Museum and Centennial Chair in the Meadows School of Arts, Southern Methodist University, Dallas

This lecture tells the story of the Meadows Museum at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas. The museum was founded in 1965 by Algur H. Meadows, a Texas oilman whose frequent business trips to Madrid inspired him to develop one of the most important collections of peninsular Spanish art outside of Europe. The institution continues to honor the legacy of its founder with acquisitions, exhibitions, community programs, and academic research initiatives aimed at establishing the Meadows Museum as the center for the study and of Spanish art and culture in the United States.
